Rubber Estate Mountain , Residence at Horana

2016

This house sits on a very narrow, sloping land, but is blessed with a distinct setting of a rubber estate mountain. The design is a play of levels that follows the natural slope of the land. This created a series of spaces with different spatial experiences at varying levels, where no two views are the same. Having the circulation core in a central placement, enabled the opposing sides of the site, the front facing a faraway mountain range, and the rear facing the rubber estate mountain, to free up to capture their scenic views. The simple linear form of the building ensured minimal built footprint which maximized the garden space along the house in the narrow site. The bedroom with a private terrace, is the best adored, having a panoramic view of the surrounding. From this level, the rubber estate mountain creates a breath-taking backdrop that brings a unique identity and a one of a kind spatial experience to the residents.
